Answers To Low Energy

I got my second dose of the Pfizer vaccine three weeks ago yesterday. Other than point tenderness at the injection site, I didn’t have any issues.

Of the issues I did have, how do I tell joint pain and other symptoms from my usual joint pain and seasonal allergy symptoms? That is something several friends had in common.

Today, I met with my doctor and my A1C is maxed out on the in-office test they did. I fasted from last night until after I got home from the doctor, as I knew I probably had diabetes.

I’ve been feeling run down and low energy and just low grade blah for a bit. I weighed myself a couple weeks ago for the first time in about two months and was surprised to have lost over 20 pounds. That is a bit more than the 2 pounds a week recommended. It also explains why I’ve got skin and fat hanging off of me. My arms weren’t that flabby. I’ve lost 20 or so pounds of muscle.

My doctor has prescribed two kinds of insulin. One for overnight, and another three times a day prior to eating. That is just to get my blood sugar under control. The pill form of diabetes treatment don’t work if blood sugar is out of whack.

Of course, the overnight insulin originally prescribed isn’t covered by insurance so I’m waiting for the doctor to OK a change to the overnight insulin insurance will cover.

The other issue is, they have the blood meter and it comes with 10 lancets to poke your finger, but it has no test strips and they were out of test strips and lancets. So I have to wait until tomorrow to be able to start testing my blood. Without a record of my blood sugar level, taking a dose of insulin won’t tell me or the doctor if it is doing it’s job.

I had done well in controlling the intake of diet soda and junk food, but not good enough.

I’m hoping that once things are under control and I feel better that my motivation will come back.

I’m the oldest of my siblings and I’m the last to develop diabetes. I’m also older than both of my parents were when they developed diabetes.

My plan is to leverage this weight loss and re-build my muscle mass and burn off this fat.

I just found out today, May 13, 2021, and because I fasted had the blood draw for all the tests the doctor ordered. I should have results tomorrow. It includes tests for thyroid and other things that have some of the same symptoms. Both parents had thyroid issues, so I won’t be too surprised if I do too.

I have to wait about two weeks before I have the blood draw for my third quarterly PSA test. I have a tiny concern that some of these symptoms fit cancer, but I’m not worrying about that until I know I need to worry about it. It’s probably “just” diabetes.

In coming weeks I hope to be more productive at home and at work once all these meds help me get back to a healthier state.
