Family History

My prostate cancer is probably more to do with genetics than anything else. My maternal grandfather had it, and I found out from my mom’s brother, that their maternal grandfather had it. So far, my brother’s seem OK, but both of them, my sons, and their sons should be diligent about their prostate health.

I am sure there are probably diet, and potential environmental factors that may have pushed my cancer over the edge. I’m not sure I’ll ever know for sure. Now that I’ve had it removed, I’ll never know if there was anything I could have done to prevent it, or delay it being so bad.

Knowing the health history of one’s ancestors is important. If your grandfather had prostate cancer, the odds are high you will too.
