Improved Continence

For the last few days I have been able to wear normal underwear with a continence pad instead of disposable underwear. I am able to make it through the night. I’m not yet confident enough to go without a pad during the day. But I am able to stay dry after a shower and don’t have to immediately put on underwear to keep from leaving a trail of urine.

I still have leakage issues with bending over, sneezing, coughing, laughing, and blowing my nose. If I can think about it, I can concentrate to hold it, but one can’t always anticipate a sneeze or a cough.

I’m doing better about doing my kegels, but I’m still not doing them as often as I should. However, the improvement is a great psychological boost.

I anticipate only needing the adult diapers for a long car trip, whenever this pandemic ends and I can safely do that. It’s a money saver since a package of pads are cheaper and have more in them than a package of adult diapers.

I’m still not improving as fast as I want, but I feel fine.

Healthier choices are also showing positive signs. I haven’t had a diet soda since before Christmas. I’ve also eaten far fewer sugary snacks. My waist is slimming. If it were warmer, I’d get out and walk. I normally drive to the mall to walk in winter, but not with COVID-19 still a threat.

My sleep has been uneven, but I am making progress at a regular bedtime and getting better quality sleep. Small steps with incremental improvement seem to be the key for me. I hope to be much slimmer come Spring.

  1. Hi Larry. Keep the faith. It took the better part of 6 months after my surgery to get to the point where I could confidently go without pads. There certainly were setbacks along the way, but I could tell there was gradual improvement over time. Now, 10 years after surgery, I’m pretty much 98% “dry.” If I sneeze or cough hard, there may be a little dribble, and if I know I’m going to be very physically active, I’ll put a pad in for safety’s sake. As long as you continue to see improvement, no matter how slow it is, that’s a good thing.

    All the best.
