First Dose Of COVID-19 Vaccine

On Wednesday, March 31, 2021, I had my first dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine. The system in Michigan requires you to be proactive and locate a place to get it.

I was given the impression that the hospital system my doctor is with would let me know when and where I could get vaccinated. Turns out, that’s not the case. I got an email from the hospital system my doctor used to be with and I used the link in that email to quickly get an appointment and get vaccinated.

The process was very efficient and well-run. I go back in a couple weeks for the second dose.

When I got back from my appointment and checked my work email sent me a link to a “real” news site. This co-worker who is anti-vaccine because the government wants him to get it. I asked him not to send me stuff like that. He responded by asking if I was afraid of the truth and it might have information to change my mind.

I then pointed out some things to him about why it was pointless to send me such links:

  • I’ve been cooped up for over a year due to COVID-19.
  • I got diagnosed with cancer.
  • I had surgery to remove my prostate.
  • I had to learn how to control my bladder all over again.
  • I have multiple risk factors that make me a candidate for the vaccine.
  • I have yet to meet my first grand nephew who is now over a year old.
  • I didn’t get smallpox, polio, or several other childhood diseases because my parents loved me.
  • I have already made up my mind and gotten the vaccine.

I remember in elementary school the whole class lining up to get whatever immunization, or booster we needed.

I remember in 6th grade in 1977/8 talking about how there were just a few active cases of smallpox. If no one else got smallpox for two years after these people recovered, then it would be declared eradicated in the wild. Smallpox was declared eradicated in the wild in 1980.

Polio was on track to be eradicated, but wars and other things have let it make a comeback.

Antibiotic resistant diseases are a big problem because we are putting so many antibiotics into the environment we’re making some diseases harder to deal with.

I remember a time when this country believed in science and knew how the Constitution works.

I think it’s interesting that the cartoon Scooby Doo started out as the group proving the ghosts and hauntings were really just people in disguise (science). Now the cartoon has morphed so that the ghosts and other creatures are real (fiction, religion,???).

The internet killed the chain letter and gave rise to spam emails, and websites and videos promoting the wildest conspiracies.

As my mother used to say, “Common sense ain’t so common.”

Those flaunting their freedom by not wearing masks, or not wearing them correctly, not washing their hands before leaving the restroom, acting like things are normal and doing their unadjusted routines are what is making this pandemic drag out.

Had the country pulled together and done the common sense thing of wearing masks, washing hands, and social distancing for six weeks or so, this pandemic in the U.S. would have quickly faded.

But no, their right to not care about anyone but themselves is more important than anyone else’s right to not get sick.

I’ve got a full beard under my mask, you ignorant #$%^@ can deal with a mask for a few minutes in the store. If you truly have a condition where you can’t wear a mask, then you really should just stay home, and use all the online delivery services.

The illogical, self-serving argument of these people astounds me.

I don’t like people in general because of the stupidity and selfishness I’ve seen over my lifetime. The past year plus has just cemented it.

I have to get to know a person before I can decide I like them or care about their opinions.

If you deny science, adhere to conspiracy theories, and other non-critical thinking activities, I don’t really want to know you. It is your selfish ignorance and stupidity that has forced me to alter my lifestyle so I don’t have to find out if COVID-19 would kill me or not.

If I hurt your precious feelings, then I doubt “Live Free Or Die” is really your true belief.
