The last week or so I have stayed mostly dry during the day. Only bending over, lifting something, or laughing has led to anything escaping my control.
So today, I decided to try regular briefs with a pad. It’s a four day weekend for me, due to the Thanksgiving holiday in the U.S. So I’m taking it easy today (Friday), and didn’t take a shower until 1:30 PM.
I managed to put on my underwear without leakage. Lifting the legs was a definite way to cause leakage without ensuring a recently emptied bladder and lots of concentration.
I still need the disposable underwear at night, although those are a bit drier each morning.
Today marks 3 months and 6 days since surgery, so that is within the bounds my urologist gave me for bladder control. I’m hopeful that making the switch back to regular underwear will help my subconscious even more to maintain bladder control.
I’m not sure how long I’ll have until I attempt going without a pad. For any yard work or other strenuous activity, and long drives/weekly shopping I’ll want a pad to avoid public embarrassment.
I started this post a few minutes after getting dressed. I’ll update this post later in the day to share how well that went. Since it’s Black Friday, I’m not going anywhere, that’s been my habit for years, COVID-19 on top of that just seals the deal. Thus, I’m in sweats, just in case.
How Did It Go?
We’ve played the board game Crokinole since I wrote the above, and it is now after 9:00 PM. I did OK, except when I had to bend over in my chair to pick up a piece that got knocked on the ground. Every time I bent over, I had leakage. The pad caught it all. It did get to the point I had to change the pad. My underwear was dry, but a pad does not hold as much as the disposable underwear, so I switched to it.
I think if I can avoid bending over, I can stay dry all day. It is a bit disappointing, but overall, it is encouraging, that I am nearly ready to switch back to regular underwear.
