Day 26 Post-Op/Day 23 Home

Wednesday, September 16, 2020 – POSTED: Friday, September 18, 2020

I woke up once about 1:30 AM to go to the bathroom. I then slept til about 7:30 AM and had a hard time waking up. I slept for 7 hours and 51 minutes according to my exercise watch. I’m just behind on sleep, as I got 4 or less hours of sleep for the first couple of weeks after surgery. A few nights of enough sleep is not enough to overcome so many nights of poor or little sleep.

I’m sure part of it is due to healing up from surgery. I’m sure that more healing and more sleep will help overcome that. Also more walking/exercise and improved diet. My diet is slightly better than before surgery, but I really need to up my game there. Low carb should do a lot to help get my weight down. There’s a lot of little things that can be done to improve overall health. Getting weight down will lower risk of heart attack, cancer, diabetes, and more. It will also allow me to get off medications for high blood pressure which will reduce the volume and frequency of urination, and make it a bit easier to get my bladder back under control.

Exercise

I’m planning to try mowing the lawn on Saturday, provided the weather cooperates. I will do a small section and see how I feel. I have an electric push mower. If the first pass hurts, then I’ll stop. If I can do a few passes and it’s OK, then I’ll do the part in front of the house. It’s the smallest area of lawn.

I get in 10,000 plus steps mowing the entire lawn. I was doing it in about 90 minutes before surgery. It’s a double lot, so it takes time.

Healthy Eating

I need to get on track to do meal prep for the week on the weekends, or evenings so I can just warm up something instead of getting take out or eating a frozen dinner from the store. About seven years ago, I started on a low carb diet and was losing weight rapidly and feeling a ton of energy. I was also doing a lot of walking, push ups, etc. Sadly, I slid away from that. My weight is fairly stable, but it’s too much. I’m about 265 pounds and should really be about 200. If I lose 2 pounds a week, I should be there by Spring. A combination of better diet and exercise should easily get me there.

Walking

My granddaughter and I did seven laps around the block for two and a half miles.

That did wonders to wake me up and help me stay awake until bed time.
