Day 14 Post-Op/Day 11 Home

Friday, September 4, 2020 – POSTED: Sunday, September 6, 2020

I had a dream that Gwyneth Paltrow was my girlfriend who took me home to her parents after surgery. They were taking pictures of my belly & scars. After I got up to pee, I had a good laugh when I looked to see how old she is. I thought I was a LOT older than her. I’m exactly 8 years older than she. We have the same birthday. That gave a good chuckle. My parents were 9 years apart.

Sleep

I got close to 7 hours sleep. At least a lot closer than over past 2 weeks. 6 hours is a good start. Plus it’s 5 am so it’s a good start on the day. I got started on this blog post, put the kettle on to make oatmeal, and started doing my morning web routine.

Getting up so early has let me get a lot done. If I can maintain this, I can continue to get a lot done. I still want to get an uninterrupted amount of sleep instead of the two hour blocks I get. I feel more rested than the past few nights.

The trick for me is to avoid thinking when I wake up in the night. Once I start thinking, my brain gets in gear and I can’t go back to sleep.

I’m glad next week is a four day work week. Hopefully, I am able to stay awake and engaged all day at work.

Productive

I wrote three blog posts for my personal blog, published the one I wrote yesterday for my gaming blog, and recorded a podcast to go with the gaming blog post. I also plan to do a YouTube video for my gaming channel. I have enough energy, I think I may finally get it made.

Hemorrhoids

I’ve had hemorrhoids since I was a teenager. I really recommend plenty of fiber and water. Also use something to elevate your feet when you’re sitting on the toilet. This puts the body in the natural position from just squatting, like toddlers do before we get them potty trained. It makes going a lot easier.

I had my hemorrhoids under control, but the affects of general anesthesia knocking out everything, including one’s bowels, makes it hard to excrete normally. I’ve been taking a fiber pill each night and drinking plenty of water, but my hemorrhoids have still been bothering me.

My suggestion to anyone with hemorrhoids who will go under general anesthesia, is to ensure you have your hemorrhoids under control prior to surgery to make your recover a bit more pleasant.

Exercise

I just did four laps around the block with my granddaughter. With all my other walking around the house and going to get some lunch, I’ve got 2.3 miles in today.

I’m feeling pretty good. What sleep I get is good, I just don’t sleep more than a couple hours at a time as I have to get up and go to the bathroom. So other than being tired from less sleep than I want, I’m doing pretty good.

I’m still getting by with acetaminophen and am on track to go back to work Tuesday. Since I work from home, I’m not too worried about it. My boss said if it’s too much, just stop for the day, etc.

As I heal, I feel even better about my decision for surgery. It’s so nice to have a positive outlook and motivation again.

House Projects

I’ve got two trees in the front yard by the house that need to come down so I’ve arranged to get two quotes from a tree service next Wednesday. The house also needs a new roof, so I’ve asked for quotes for that. I’ll re-do the gutters too, with something to keep leaves out. The bathroom needs a new tub and sink, and the plumbing in this nearly 100 year old house is iron, copper, and plastic. I want to get rid of the iron.

My daughter-in-law used to work for a general contractor, so she and I should be able to do the indoors stuff ourselves. I know I can do the plumbing. I want to get it done before Winter so we have less issues with snow, ice, and rain.

Having motivation to tackle these things is great. I might even get new windows too, since most of the windows in here are old and easily stick.
