Day 8 Post-Op/Day 6 Home

Saturday, August 29, 2020 – POSTED: August 31, 2020

Laying down last night and getting up from the futon this morning were a lot easier than the day before. I woke up a few times in the night. This is normal for me. However, I did rest very well. Being able to stretch out is great! Also laying flat last night did not have the same abdominal discomfort as the night before. I guess I stretched out what needed to stretch out. Also I did not have right shoulder pain last night.

My drain tube incision is still weeping. Not a lot, but it’s yet to scab over.

I took a shower and it was wonderful!

Agenda

Now for some breakfast and then planning for tomorrow’s game! I run a weekly D&D game online and wasn’t sure I’d be up for it. I cancelled last week ahead of time as it was only 2 days after surgery. I played in the Wednesday night game I’m in and it was normal, so I’m ready to continue and see how far the adventurers get this time.

I’ve been recapping my player’s progress each week on my podcast. I didn’t get the last session on the podcast before surgery. I hope to do that today.

Progress!

I had a much more productive bowel movement. As my abdomen is less tender, I feel less twinges of pain when I bear down.

I put my shoes and socks on all by myself! I’ve been barefoot the last several days, I want my son to take me shopping. My right foot was nearly normal and got my sock and shoe on with no issues. My left foot was a challenge only because of the clip to hold the catheter drain tube is in my left thigh. I had to adjust the position of the drain tube so I could lift my leg. There was a little tugging from the catheter, but it wasn’t bad.

So as my abdomen is less tender and I regain movement, I foresee much walking outside. Especially when I get the catheter out in two more days!

If it weren’t for this catheter, tube, and bag, I’d feel nearly normal. I like how fast one bounces back from laparoscopic surgery. Definitely a great choice! I hope I never need another surgery, but if I do, laparoscopy is the way to go.

I also had to cinch up the drawstring on my gym shorts. My abdomen is a lot less bloated.

In A Child’s Eyes

My granddaughter is five and a half and thinks it’s funny that I’m excited to put on my own shoes and socks by myself for the first time post-op.

Worn Out

I was feeling good, so my granddaughter and I took a walk around the block. We did three laps around. It is a small block, but we got in about a mile. I didn’t check my fitness tracker before we started to know how many steps I already had.

After the second lap, I started running out of steam about halfway into the third lap.

When we got back home, I noticed the urine was like pink lemonade in color. That is OK as it means residual blood is being carried away from my bladder. I felt no discomfort, just tired. I should have stopped after two laps.

I thought I might doze off, but I updated the home page with links to Wikipedia for various terminology and added the technical terms from my biopsy report. I also added a Glossary page with all technical terms in one place.

Remains of the Day

I made plans to run my Sunday D&D game. I am amazed at how good I feel and that I feel like running a game so soon. I only missed running last Sunday because I cancelled ahead of time since I didn’t think I’d be up to it two days after surgery. Turns out I was still in the hospital, so I couldn’t run it if I’d wanted to.

I thought for sure I’d take a nap after three laps around the block, but I didn’t.

I went to bed about 10:30 pm. I had my granddaughter climb in the futon and snuggle with me before she had to go to bed. I miss being able to have her climb in my lap and snuggle. Just as she got in place, the dog comes up and starts whining like he wants to come snuggle too. He’s a big lovable brute, but the last thing I need is him stepping on my abdomen.
