I woke up refreshed, got out of the recliner, emptied my urine collection bag, and brushed my teeth.
I then started the kettle to boil water for more beef boullion. I splurged on top of the line bullion with real beef instead of those foil wrapped cubes with artificial flavors that my parents always used. It tastes really good and sites well on my stomach.
I let my son know I prepared the kettle as I was feeling puny and needed him to bring it to me.
I drank two or three cups of beef broth and it finally started to feel like I didn’t need more, it was too salty. I think my sodium got low again, like it had at the hospital.
I went upstairs and plugged in the power strip for my computer and started it up. I did a few things, but ran out of steam quickly. I then went back downstairs.
I dozed off a couple hours at one point. When I woke up, I felt like I wouldn’t be able to make it back upstairs today.
I also decided to take a shower. I felt steady enough to do it myself. My urologist said to just unhook the bag and let the catheter drain in the shower, since most men pee in the shower anyway. It felt nice to stand and get a real shower, instead of sit on a chair in the hospital shower. I felt like I really got clean. I did find I couldn’t lift my left leg to wash my lower leg, but I think I had enough lather to do the job for now.
I also unplugged the wrong end of the connector. It was very tough to get loose, and tougher to get back together, but I did it, no leaks. After I had gotten dressed, itself a bit of a challenge, I was sitting down and realized I put it together upside down as a part was digging into my thigh.
I was feeling pretty good, and decided to stop resisting the chocolate chip cookies they made while I was in the hospital. I only took one, but man, it was the best ever. Something about being that hungry makes food so much better.
I asked for mashed potatoes and gravy for supper. It was soft and not broth. It was the best mashed potatoes ever, even though it was store bought. I gobbled it down. I guess I needed the carbs, my energy shot way up and I felt like going back upstairs and finishing what I started. That’s when I took the plunge and started this blog.
After about five hours of typing, I had the basics of the blog and the first few articles to publish over the coming days.
I hope to continue this adventure in sharing my recovery from surgery and the results of the pathology lab on my prostate, which will give my prognosis.
Hopefully, there is no sign of it advancing beyond my prostate, in which case, my prognosis is total cure. I just need a PSA blood test each quarter for a year and if the PSA number is 0 or flatlined, it’s considered cured. That is what I’m hoping to hear this time next year.
